Military officers from 93 Battalion of the Nigeria Army, Takum in Taraba State, have arrested a soldier and two civilians with large consignments of arms and ammunition in Ibi local government area of the state.

An eye witness told our correspondent that the Soldier whose name was given as WO II Hassan Atayani serving with TRADOC Minna, Niger State was allegedly arrested along with two bus drivers, one Apopo Asetiya and the other whose name is yet to be obtained, across river Ibi on June 25 with assorted arms and amunitions.

The items were loaded in a Hallmark Computer Bus and a campaign Vehicle allegedly belonging to a senatorial Candidate of one of the political parties from southern Taraba.

The eye witness disclosed that the military officers who were working on a tip off mounted surveillance across river Ibi awaiting the arrival of the two Buses loaded with the arms and amunitions.

The source who preferred anonymity added that the Soldier who served as an escort to the two vehicles was promptly arrested along with the two Bus drivers shortly after crossing the river at Ibi.

It was gathered that the military officers conveyed the two Bus load of arms and amunitions to the 93 Military Battalion in Takum along with the three suspects for further investigation.

It was further learnt that the Soldier, WO II, Hassan Atayani is an indigine of Ibi local government while the two Bus drivers hailed from Wukari local government area of Taraba state.

Efforts to confirm the incident from the Commanding officer of 93 Battalion Takum failed.

When contacted, the Police public Relations officer (PPRO) of the Taraba police command, DSP Usman Abdullahi said the police was yet to receive the report from the 93 Military Battalion, Takum.

The alleged interception  of the arms and ammunition by the military at Ibi on Sunday has heightened tension and apprehension in the Southern Taraba, most especially that the arms are allegedly linked to a senatorial candidate of a political party from the area.
