Staff continue protest at Taraba varsity

The Senate Building entrance at Taraba State University Jalingo remained locked and barricaded by members of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), Taraba State University, and the Non-academic Staff Union of Nigerian Universities (NASU), who were protesting the non-payment of October salaries, as well as earned and hazard allowances.
The protest was started on Monday by a non-academic staff union.
They contended that Vice-Chancellor Prof. Vincent Tenebe was selective in the payment of salaries.
On Tuesday, demonstrators blocked the entrance and exit of cars and staff into the Senate building.
Linus Williams, the union’s chairman, told reporters that he was appalled by management’s callous attitude toward the situation of union members.
“To our greatest dismay, they deprived us of October salaries. They have alleged in the last letter they sent to us that our members are not coming to work which is a blatant lie, he said.
Members of the union urged Governor Darius Ishaku to remove Prof. Tenebe as the vice-chancellor and replace him with an indigenous person.
“It’s sad because this is a community-university whose impact is intended to be felt by all citizens, the opposite is the case. For us, they must pay our salaries; otherwise, this Senate Building would remain permanently closed, they said.
Prof. Tenebe, the Vice-Chancellor, did not pick up calls or react to SMS sent by Our Correspondent.
